RL.K.2 With prompting and support, retell familiar stories, including key details.
RL.K.3 With prompting and support, identify characters, setting, and major events in a story.
Can be used as a pretest or post-test after teaching terms- character, setting, and plot.
Read students a story.
Hand out Narrative Elements Assessment for students to draw in the characters and setting boxes. (You may wish to ask students about their pictures and write notes about their drawings if they are unclear.)
Bring students back together for back portion- plot. This portion can be done two ways. Students can be given three pictures representing the major events in a story and be asked to glue them down in order. Or, students can be asked to draw the major events of the story on their own. All students can be given the same support, or support can be scaffolded depending on the needs of your class. Several lines are listed below each plot box for students to write a description if ready for this step.
