Here are 52 different narrative writing prompts to use as either journal prompts or bell ringers. Each page has one picture and two writing choices to go with the picture. Choice A is a fiction story that students can create using their imagination. Choice B is a personal narrative for them to retell a story that has happened to them or could happen to them in the future. Writing prompts encourage use of detail, the 5 w's (who, what, where, when, why), dialogue, their senses, and beginning/middle/end. The prompts also encourage story telling from different points of view (i.e. a cat's point of view, another person's point of view)
