In this lesson, students will identify and discuss problems and solutions and how, in this particular story, problems lead to more problems which need additional solutions. In addition, there is a bonus "enrichment" piece where students look closely at one short piece of text to determine the informative and entertaining aspects of it.
The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, by Mordicai Gerstein is a beautifully illustrated true story of Philippe Petit - a man who felt compelled to walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Center in August of 1974.
Students love learning about real people and their stories of perseverance and triumph.
This lesson is aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as well as Virginia SOLs.
