This is a study of narrative poems using songs. These songs include "Harper Valley PTA," "In the Ghetto," "Coward of the County" and "D.B. Cooper." The artists are listed on the sheet and there are 10-13 original questions per song. These questions may be tweaked to fit your specific goals, as some are inference, some are finding examples of literary elements, and others discuss tone, mood, and the like.
This is a six-page unit. The songs could be assigned to groups in a class so that they each analyze one song and present to the class. It could also be used one song at a time with the entire class. I am posting this as a 50 minute assignment, but it could last several days, if done individually.
