Description

Let’s write a Narrative Poem… (♪ ♪ and let’s put it to music ♪ ♪ )

I play my students the song, ‘One Piece at a Time’ by Johnny Cash.

This song tells a great story… much like a narrative poem tells a story.

I provide them with the lyrics to ‘One Piece at a Timeso they can reference how a story flows AND so they can see how I want them to structure their poem.

Their assignment is to write their own narrative poem telling about their summer vacation and be able to sing it/say it/rap it to the tune of ‘One Piece at a Time’

Or - have them write about any other holiday or event that may be happening in your hometown.

I give them the first stanza of the poem.

Students MUST follow a specific rhyming pattern.

BE SURE TO WATCH THE VIDEO OF ONE OF MY STUDENTS SINGING HIS FINISHED PRODUCT. This has turned out to be a favorite poetry lesson to do with my class...
