This rubric allows you to mark your students Narrative (story) writing according to Ontario Grade 1 standards. They are given a level 1-4 and are marked on their spelling, punctuation, capitalization, letter formation, and idea generation (beginning middle and an end to the story).

Writing Strands assessed:

2.4 write simple but complete sentences that make sense

3.4 use punctuation to help communicate intended meaning, focus on: capital letter at the beginning of sentences; periods,

3.1 spell some high-frequency words correctly 

2.8 produce revised draft pieces of writing to meet criteria identified by the teacher, based on the expectations

1.5 identify and order main ideas and supporting details, initially with support and direction, using simple graphic organizers

3.2 spell unfamiliar words using a variety of strategies that involve understanding sound-symbol relationships, word structures,
