This writing pack is the perfect addition to your Read Across America activities and goes great with reading the classic story Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss. Students will be able to go through the writing process with these ready to use writing templates. Just print and use! Students will put themselves in the place of a Who and will answer the writing prompt: If you were living on the tiny speck that Horton found, what would you do?
This pack includes:
-Brainstorming page for students to write ideas about the prompt
-Rough draft writing template featuring transitional words: first, next and last
-An additional rough draft template to help assist struggling writers
-Final draft template to use and attach to the craft
-All templates included for each part of the elephant and are ready to print. There are two options: Students can color, cut and create the craft or they can trace each part on construction paper and put it together.
I have the elephant peeking his eyes over the top of the writing and have folded over both ends of the elephant's trunk to make it look like he is holding the clover and that his trunk is reaching around the page.
This pack is sure to get your kiddos excited about writing, while thinking about the kindness Horton shows to others in the book!
*It took my students about a week to complete the writing process. My kiddos were so proud of their work and when they were finished they loved seeing their elephant and writing hung up! Each one turned out unique to them.
Looks great up on a bulletin board!
Check out the PREVIEW to see how they turned out!
