Use picture prompts to encourage narrative writing - This pack includes pictures and organizers. Sometimes kids just need a little help (prompting) coming up with a topic or a means of getting started. What better way than to use a photograph. After all, a picture does tell a story, and as the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words."
This pack includes a set of 25 different photograph organizers. For each of the 25 photographs you get 3 different pages.
1) large scale colored version that can be displayed using the projector from computer- great to use for discussion
2) small scale colored image on an organizer sheet.
3)small scale black and white image on an organizer sheet.
The organizers have the following boxes to write information. Keep in mind though that the boxes are just to trigger thoughts and there is not a great deal of room. Just room for a few sentences, so they can have a way to organize before they write.
You can use these in a variety of different ways. In my class, I would most likely use them in a literacy center, possibly while I am working with a guided reading group. Another option is to have them in a file available to kids and they could always be working on a story during any spare time they have after work is completed. There are 25 cards, so there are plenty to have a story going almost the entire year. :-) All kids don't have to be working on the same one at any given time. Possibly let them pick ones that are of interest to them.
I hope your students have fun with these and they help to trigger some great writing ideas.
