This Narrative Writing Prompts resource contains 98 different story element cards including story starters, character ideas, problem ideas, setting ideas and genre ideas for your students story writing.
This is a fun and engaging way to get your students writing, particularly if narrative writing isn’t their ‘cup of tea’. This is a fantastic and easy way for kids who struggle to generate creative ideas for their narrative.
Included in this pack:
* 17 Story Starter Prompts - These are one line in length to assist students in beginning their stories.
* 23 Character Ideas
* 27 Setting Ideas
* 17 Story Problem or Complication Ideas
* 14 Genre Ideas
How I use this in my classroom:
I get my students to choose a card from the character, setting and problem pile (this can be done randomly or can be considered).
For example they might choose:
Setting: Alien Planet
Problem: Your character has to answer a series of clues in order to solve a riddle.
They can either start writing straight away or use a graphic organiser to develop their ideas further, mapping out details for the orientation, complication and resolution.
Print these cards out , laminate and bundle them into groups. Punch a hole at one end of the card and keep together by either a ring binder, elastic or even some pretty ribbon.
