Are you struggling to get your students to write a narrative that focuses on one small moment in time? Are you searching for an effective graphic organizers that helps students with this focus? After many years of experimenting, I have created some resources that allow students to zero in on one small moment in time. Equally as important, I have created sentence stems to help with word choice and sentence fluency. This unit is a perfect beginning for teaching students how to effectively write a narrative. As state testing has students write a narrative in a different point of view or perhaps write extend an ending, STUDENTS MUST FIRST KNOW THE STRUCTURE OF A NARRATIVE BEFORE THEY CAN CREATE SUCH TASKS.

Included in this unit:

  • Narrative Structure Anchor Chart
  • Sentence Starters  for:
    • See, Hear, Smell and Taste
    • One page student reference sheet (all 4)
  • Graphic Organizer
    • Focusing on one small moment in time
    • Includes sentence stems and suggested transitions
    • Problem/Solution format
  • Suggested Narrative Writing Prompts
  • Sample Narrative Writing Piece
  • Narrative Writing Rubric
  • Stationery Choices
  • All available in Google Slide and PDF Version

My Narrative Writing Unit with Photo Prompts (Scaffolded for Special Education) would be a great supplement to this unit.
