Narrative Picture Prompts:
I use these cards when introducing a new section of a narrative (introduction, problem, ending). They prompt students to remember to include certain elements that are needed. I find that using these cards help students direct their writing to include important information. When I teach the introduction, for example, I encourage my students to write about:
- WHEN the problem began
- WHO the character was
- DESCRIPTION of what they looked like
- WHERE the character lived
- FEELINGS how the character felt at the beginning
- EXTRA DETAIL any extra detail that could enhance their stories (e.g. what the character liked to do, hobbies etc).
You may use these cards for other activities too, such as for news telling, questioning activities and more! Blow them up to A3 for a large board display, or keep them as is for your mat sessions.
