Included in this resource are 40 pictures, 40 graphic organizers with pictures, and a rubric. Students will use their background knowledge, imaginations, and personal experiences to write a story that relates to the picture(s). Click "Preview" to download a sample of this activity!
1. Introducing this activity to your students:
Option 1: Student Choice! Show each slide containing each picture on the Smartboard so students can start brainstorming about which sport they would like to write about.
Option 2: There are enough picture prompts and graphic organizers for most class sizes. After showing your class each picture, you may choose to pass out a different graphic organizer to each student at random.
2. Ask student volunteers to share their picture and graphic organizer with the class after they have filled it out. It will be entertaining and informative for students to hear other students' ideas and planning for their story.
3. Print the activity double sided with the graphic organizer on one side and the rubric on the other. Students will know exactly what is expected of them and it will make grading easier for you. You'll also save paper!
4. You may choose to have students write the full story on a separate sheet of paper after you have graded the graphic organizer. Totally up to you! :)
Please let me know if this activity was a success in your classroom or if you think it will be! Your feedback is very important to me.
