Guide students to write a complete, well-structured, and creative story with this menu of story choices. Teaching descriptive writing with this scaffolded approach has done wonders for fleshing out my students' writing and giving them a better sense of what is necessary in composing a complete, satisfying narrative.
This menu has a survival/adventure theme, and works well with any story with a survival element/theme or on its own as a narrative writing project.
Story menus offer a more structured approach to creative writing that is sure to get even your most resistant, lost writers excitedly weaving their own tales. The limited choose your own adventure style of choices for settings, inciting incidents, antagonists, etc. ensures the end product will include the entire plot mountain, but still offers plenty of room for creativity and imagination. After choosing their plot elements, students can immediately get started drafting their own survival / adventure story.
Though created with middle schoolers in mind, this is a fun activity for older and younger students who may need help structuring their writing.
