Description

Looking for an easy, engaging way to teach narrative writing to your upper elementary or middle school students? Then this is for you! This writer’s workshop is broken down into small, manageable steps which will keep your students engaged and excited.

This workshop begins with six “Toolbox” Lessons. These are stand-alone craft lessons that support the skills necessary for writing strong narratives, as well as the common core State Standards (CCSS).

Students will explore:

• plot structure

• using transition words

• developing internal conflict

• using strong verbs

• punctuating dialogue

• the importance of a strong opening

(Answer keys are included when necessary!!)

Next, they generate ideas for their narratives. Lessons include:

• writing about “treasures”

• writing about “memorable moments”

• writing about “everyday adventures”

Finally, they will draft, revise, and edit. Includes:

• Teacher-and-Student Conferencing Guide

• Peer Conferencing Guide

• Self-Conferencing Guide

• Editor’s Checklist

• Scoring Rubric

I’ve also included Common Core alignment and a Lesson Plan Calendar to show how I break down these 4+ weeks of teaching. You will also find detailed, step-by-step lesson plans for each day of teaching!

Thanks for shopping! Enjoy!
