Use this narrative writing resource SAMPLER that includes 1 prompt to address the Common Core State Standard for Narrative Writing (W.3.3). Students respond to a narrative writing prompt based on a well known fairy tale.

How it Works

In this resource the student practices first identifying character traits of well-known fairy tale characters. Then using this information, they show how the traits motivate and affect the events in the story.

This SAMPLER includes the following:

* Narrative Prompt for Goldilocks character

* Examining Character Traits Mini-Lesson

* Examining Character Traits Graphic Organizer

* Final Draft Paper for Goldilocks narrative

In this resource, students are presented a prompt about a character from a fairy tale. The teacher uses the included mini-lessons to address all the components of the narrative writing prompt which include:

❏ describing the setting

❏ examining character traits

❏ establishing a problem/solution plot outline

❏ writing dialogue

❏ showing NOT telling description

Once the components of the prompt are taught and practiced, the student begins drafting the narrative. When all revisions and editing is done, students can publish on themed final draft writing paper.
