Product Description
This bundle contains the following two products:

1. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass Reading Quizzes

This collection of reading quizzes is an easy way to check for understanding and monitor accountability for students reading The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. These short-answer/fill-in-the-blank quizzes contain a total of 36 questions spanning the novel and divided into the following four sections:
* Chapters I-IV
* Chapters V-IX
* Chapter X
* Chapters XI-Parody

Answer keys included.

2. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass Syntactical Imitations; AP Lang and Comp

One of the best ways for AP Lang students and high school English students to understand and use parallel construction and other syntactical constructions is have them imitate successful authors' constructions.

Students will learn the following syntactical constructions:
*Parallel Construction
*Anaphora
*Antithesis
*Antimetabole
*Asyndeton
*Anadiplosis

For twenty-five text passages from The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass representing the above syntactical constructions, students will write commentary for the rhetorical effect the construction has on meaning. They will then write an original imitation of the structure, mimicking the author.

In my AP Lang classroom, students who practice imitating specific syntactical structures are more able to incorporate them successfully into their own writing!

*Note: Reading the novel The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is not necessary for this activity, but it does complement a novel unit.
