Do you collect all student writing after display to keep in your students' writing portfolios for the year? How do you inform parents about a student's writing progress in between report cards?
How do you make sure you are consistently and fairly grading all writing pieces?
This rubric is my solution!
I use this writing rubric to grade students' narratives and fiction stories. I circle the numbers if the student does not successfully complete a task. I place a check if the student does successfully complete a task. At the end, I count all of the checks and choose the grade using the grading scale at the bottom.
I attach one copy of this to the writing and keep it in the student's writing portfolio. A second copy is sent home for the parents. This helps parents to keep track of their child's progress and also allows the parents to know exactly what areas they could work on with their child.
