I wrote this 2nd/3rd grade level reading about narwhals for my dyslexic students to enjoy.
The simple black font (Arial size 14) and 1.5 line spacing ensure that the reading can be enjoyed by those with visual sensitivities. Challenging words are spread out throughout the reading to prevent fatigue, and it’s packed with fun facts and written engagingly to keep readers' attention.
The reading is suitable for decoding/fluency practice or reading comprehension practice. Students should know the following sounds to decode the trickier words: ea/ee/ie, oo, ai/ay, ar, er/ir/ur, al, and Magic E.
The file contains no photos, so as to not exhaust purchasers' ink supplies. You can easily print out photos that match the story if you so choose- or even better, show photos on a large screen that allows for zooming in.
