This task requires students to select a country from anywhere in the world. Students are responsible for collecting research on the country's flag and anthem, using critical thinking skills to figure out what we can learn about the country from each. In the final copy, students complete a template that will be mounted on construction paper, laminated, and posted on a bulletin board around a world map, with a piece of yarn connecting each country summary to the country's location on the map.
This activity was conducted after analyzing Canada's anthem and flag together.
On the template, the line at the top is for the name of the country. The rectangle beneath this is for a drawing of the flag. The rounded box attached to the rectangle is for the information about the flag. The long, thin rounded box is for the title of the anthem, with the attached larger rounded box used for information about what the anthem teaches us. The single box in the bottom left corner is for the student to identify the type of government.
