PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

[For the June 2013 issue of Nat'l Geo] This includes suggested ways to incorporate standards into a current informational text. Because James Cameron is a well-known director of movies such as Titanic and Avatar, and further, the fact that his deep sea project took a span of 7 years to construct makes using this article viable and relevant for students.

My product suggests two ways in which 2 of the standards can be taught. It has been designed to help provide students with a model answer and to use as a “teaching tool.” The RI6.3 suggests the many ways information was given in the article. The table describes the method, and the task is for the students to locate examples that satisfy it. Students can work collaboratively or in pairs or even this material can be given digitally and worked on at home and then shared in school.

I have included blank templates for your use and convenience; managing the standards in a table format makes it somewhat easier for students when they are confronted with nonfiction material. One last idea is to supply the examples and allow students to identify the method used.

Please note: the article is not included in this product.
