Table of Contents:

Pg. 3-4 “M” Monsters 1 Copy the monsters onto white construction paper or white cardstock. Cut out the monster. Cut out the mouth. Attach the monster to a popsicle stick. This can be laminated and collected to be used each year. Have the students look in books for the letter “M” or walk around the room using the mouth to spy things that start with the letter “M”.

Pg. 5-6 Mmmmm Mustache Talker - Copy the mustaches onto white construction paper or cardstock. Cut out the mustaches and attach a skewer to the side of the mustache with tape. You can cut off the points of the skewers for safety reasons. This can be laminated and collected or something fun to send home with each student. Several ways this can be used. The students can raise the mustache to their nose when they hear the teacher say a word that starts with /m/, or if the two words the teacher says begins with the letter sound /m/. They can also take turns standing in front of the class with their mustache to share a word that starts with /m/.

Pg. 7-10 M is for Mouse – copy the patterns onto the correct colored construction paper. Put the mouse together as seen in the example. Create the pocket by gluing the bottom and sides. Cut out the pictures and put only the pictures that start with m in the pocket. This can be practiced a couple of times.

Pg. 11-15 Alphabet Concentration – Turn the cards over and play the game with the concentration game rules. Match the capitals and the lower case letters. Whoever has the most matches wins. This can be played in a small group.

Pg. 16-17 Letter Match. Color and cut out the bus. Cut on the dotted lines to form openings. Cut out the letter strips and put them through the openings. Slide the letter strips up and down to match the letters.

Pg. 18-19 Book Response – a chance to respond to the book. Fill the word of your choice in and draw a picture to go with it. The students can trace the words in the sentence around the missing word for writing practice. They can then share with their classmates.

Pg. 20-23 Mmmm I Like to Eat – Trace and finish the sentence. Choose either the bowl or the plate to draw your picture on. Put together as seen in the example.

Pg. 24-26 Our Favorite Colors Class Book – Each student traces and writes the sentence and writes the color word of their choice on the crayon. They then need to illustrate a picture with their favorite color. Put all the pages together to form a book.
