Pg. 3-7 Social Studies Vocabulary and Academic Vocabulary – copy pages A and B back to back – cut on the dotted lines and fold on the solid lines – draw a picture and write a sentence for each vocabulary word
Pg. 8-10 Spelling – 3 choices – 1. first four spelling words with high frequency words combined 2. add the last six spelling words to the back of the first four spelling words and high frequency words to include all 16 3. first four spelling words and last 6 spelling words combined – students roll the dice to see how they will write each spelling word – spelling words are written 3 times each
Pg. 11 Electrifying Spelling – color the kites depending on how each word is spelled – write the words in the correct box on the right side of the paper
Pg. 12-14 –ed past tense endings – adding –ed to a word that ends with y – copy pages A and B back to back – fold to create the new words with –ed – write the new words on the spaces
Pg. 15-16 Double Dan! – cut out the stars and let Double Dan help you double the consonant before you add the –ed
Pg. 17-19 Flip up Venn Diagram – copy pages A and B back to back flip up to write or illustrate what is the same and what is different between now and when Ben lived
Pg. 20-23 Star Words and My “ar” book – cut out the starts and cut on the dotted lines forming openings, cut out the letter strips, insert the letter strips into the openings and move the letters to form new words – write your words into your foldable “ar” book – think of more words to add to your book
Pg. 24-26 A Pocket Full of Details – fold on the center lines and glue the sides to form a pocket, cut out the detail cards, write the main idea on the front of the pocket, write the details on the cards, insert the cards into the pocket
Pg. 27 My Favorite Invention of Bens – write about and draw an illustration of your favorite invention of Ben’s
Pg. 28-35 ZAP! – a fun High Frequency Word game – students put the kite cards face down in a pile with the lighting bolts, the students take turn reading cards, the winner has the most cards after 5 min., (if they pick up a lighting bolt they have to put all their cards back into the pile) – four players – can be put on cardstock and laminated
Pg. 36-42 Would I like to live then or now? – a writing and craft activity – copy patterns onto the correct colored construction paper – glue on the eyes – use a crayon to make Ben’s eyebrows and mouth – glue together as seen in the example –you can add extra writing paper and just staple the pages at the top of the kite – make sure Ben’s hands do not cover the writing paper so it can be flipped up to see the second page
Pg. 43-46 The Ben Franklin Gazette – fill out the information about Ben Franklin and illustrate – glue together as seen in the example
