Based on the popular movie "National Treasure" the students will 'travel to' and learn about 8 national monuments while solving math and science challenges and earning treasure points. The students will be placed in 2 to 3 person teams and “compete”, trying to be the first to earn the "National Treasure"!
Students will be given a clue each day to decipher what national monument they will be visiting, just like Ben Gates in the movie. Once they have figured out the clue, then the real fun starts. They need to complete a challenge (either mathematical or scientific) as a team. There are even a bonus challenges for each monument for the fast finishing teams to be able to earn more treasure points.
This unit can be used many ways. As a once a week problem solving unit that will last for 10 weeks or a 2 week everyday unit that encompasses many problem solving and scientific skills . This unit will motivate even your most reluctant learner.
