Engage your students as archaeologists and anthropologists!
In pairs or small groups, students examine artifacts from six tribes indigenous to North America. (Iroquois, Navajo, Sioux, Nex Perce, Seminole, Kwakiutl) Once students make observations and hypotheses, they research one particular tribe and report-out to confirm or correct class guesses.
Print ant photocopy so the boxes align - images and class notes on one side, "field notes" on the other. The tribe name is listed above each image, so students aren't guessing which is which.
A short PowerPoint (with guided note worksheet) briefly gives an overview of European exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries, and their views towards indigenous peoples they encountered.
Great for US classes that move fast. Can be done in 50 or 90 minute class, or extended at teacher's discretion.
Includes: student worksheets, images for stations, two tribal maps, powerpoint with guided student notes, teacher instructions.
