This unit begins with the migration of the early Native Americans from modern-day Russia to modern-day Alaska. Students will map the the journey of these early Americans on a map and they will also be able to describe this trek.
Students will then be immersed in information regarding the Olmec, Inca, Aztec and Mayans, the early powers in MesoAmerica. Students will be required to compare and contrast these early civilizations with one another to find common traits, as well as distinct differences.
Students will also be introduced to Cornell Not-taking during this unit, in order to promote independence and increase the amount of rigor for students, as they move away from guided notes.
Students will also be introduced to the Iroquois and Lenape, who were major powers in New York and New Jersey, prior to European contact.
This is a two week Unit with PowerPoints and Student Packets for each day. There is also a study guide, as well as a quiz to measure mastery. This unit segways into another related unit on the Age of Exploration.
