If you are looking for a Native American project to help your students learn about and celebrate Native American culture, this project can help! This project is an excellent addition to a U.S. History Curriculum that provides students with the chance to better understand Native American cultures. Often, this perspective is left out of history textbooks, but this project will help students learn about and celebrate Native American culture, regardless of the time of year or unit you are learning about. In this project, students will be selecting a Native American tribe of their choice from the list provided, and creating a slideshow. Students will be researching the components of GRAPES about the tribe they selected. GRAPES is an acronym that stands for Geography, Religion, Art/Architecture, Politics, Economy, and Society. They will also learn about the history of this tribe, as well as current challenges and success that the tribe is experiencing today.
This product has everything you need for a successful project. Included is a PDF teacher guide, a student handout, and a scoring sheet. There is also a document with access to two files on Google Drive: the same student file for Google Docs (editable when you make a copy to your own drive) and a slideshow template for Google Slides that you can link to your Google Classroom page. This project works very well for middle school students and gives them the chance to explore many elements of Native American culture that connect to the US History course content.
