This is a student handout for a research project/poster assignment for American History class. I assign this when we cover the Indian Wars and the Massacre at Wounded Knee. For this assignment, students will pair up with a partner and research an assigned Native American warrior. They will create a poster that includes their warrior's tribe of origin, geographic location, their contributions in warfare, an image of them, and any information or insight on their lasting legacy. There are 9 warriors included: Crazy Horse, Cochise, Geronimo, Red Cloud, Sitting Bull, Chief Gall, Lozen, Chief Joseph, and Conquering Bear. Depending on the size of your class, you may want to double assign a warrior as you see fit. There is a rubric included, as well as a number of photos that you can print out for students if you like.
This download includes:
page 1: a description of the assignment (with 5 criteria) for students to review and keep. On this sheet you'll need to add in the due date and points possible for your class.
page 2: a rubric for grading
page 3: a guide to the photos
page 4-20: photos of the warriors if you'd like to distribute them. If students have the means to find and print these on their own, I'd have them do that.
