This is the project I use with my students as we begin our Native American unit and to teach how to work in a group. They are each assigned a tribe (based off of the standards listed) to research and discover information on the shelter, clothing, location, environment, and food. They then utilize encyclopedias, Internet, trade books, and our social studies book to gather information on their tribe to help in their creation. In the end, they present their project to the class. After presentations, they complete two rubrics (one on themselves and one on each member in their group) and complete a final reflection on their tribe (to show mastery of the entire tribe) and those are combined with the rubric I fill out as I watch their presentation. Each child ends up with a group work grade (from the presentation and diorama-top part of the rubric) and an individual grade (from their final reflection, participation, and rubrics filled out on them). They really love this project! Feel free to ask any questions!
