After a definition of style, students are given six pages for style analysis. Students are divided into groups and each group is given two of these pages (handouts) for analysis. This takes up one class period. On the second day, the Smartboard has each page on it and we mark up the text. The emphasis is on HOW STYLE ADDS TO THE MEANING OF THE TEXT. Emphasis on diction, syntax, and imagery. This is a good review or introduction into how the way something is written adds to the meaning.... students get it!
