One aspect of differentiating instruction is allowing students to make choices in their learning. This natural disaster project allows students to have a choice in their project. They are given a choice between nine natural disaster topics. Then they choose one of six projects. The projects include: a podcast/video, a PowerPoint presentation, a children’s book, a diorama, a mobile, or a travel brochure. There is a detailed description of what is expected for each project. No matter which project the student chooses, they are asked to include what causes the natural disaster, how the disaster affects people’s lives, and locations where the natural disaster occurs the most. A grading sheet or rubric is included for each of the six choices on the choice board. The rubric and grading sheets are based on the descriptions given in the choice board.
