This Natural Resources Unit includes four different activities to help in introducing the topic of natural resources to your students.
The first activity is called, "Outdoor Observations." Use this recording sheet as your introduction to the unit. Take students on a nature walk around the school grounds. Have them record and categorize the natural resources they find on their walk as either land, water, animals, or plants. Discuss findings after you return indoors!
The second activity is called, "Way You Can Help!" There are seven examples of how students can either reduce, reuse, or recycle in their day to day lives. As a class decide if the given scenario is an example or reducing, reusing, or recycling. Discussion of the vocabulary will be important beforehand. Students will also color a scenario if it is an example of how they can help save the earth. The answer key is included!
The third activity is called "Natural Resources Sort." Students will cut out the fifteen pictures, and sort them into two types of nonliving (land and water) and two types of living (animals and plants) natural resources. This activity can be done as an independent or whole group activity. The answer key is included!
The fourth and final activity called "Help the Earth Ribbon." This is the culmination activity for the natural resources unit. Student will cut out and put the ribbon together. They can also color the earth portion of their ribbon. Then they will write their name and how the can help the earth. These can then be shared and/or displayed in the classroom!
