Just used this lesson as a finish up Friday activity. I just created and used this lab for a Friday activity after lecturing on the types of graphs created in Natural Selection. We also created a foldable (see my TpT lesson) the previous day. The students really enjoyed creating the graphs. I find when food is involved, they are always involved with the lesson. Even students who have special needs were able to draw and remember the three types of graphs we used.
I printed the problem sets in color and laminated them for use again and again. I printed 18 table sets because I wanted the students to work in groups of two and I have 34 students in one of my hours.
Elmer's glue not glue sticks work for this activity. I made sure I gave the students at least 2 cups of cereal for the activity. This insured they would have extra to eat when we were done.
I like to use the strategy “Talk Moves” when completing this lab. The students turn in one project per group. I think it is important to get them discussing their opinions in positive ways when we conduct labs in science. My “Talk Moves” posters are available at my TpT store at quickwittedowl under the category “Talk Moves”
I found lovely clipart which was royalty free on classroom clipart and classroom all.
