Animations Developed in Microsoft PPT

The Natural Selection Simulation provides students with the opportunity to test the effects of natural selection on a fictional population over the course of up to ten generations. The simulation has students include the following variables/principles:
-Starvation
-Age
-Reproductive Success
-Differential Reproduction
-Variation in Offspring
-Competition between members of a population
-Fluctuations in population size
-Boom and Bust Cycles
-Genetic Drift vs Evolution
-Adaptation
Students will place members of a predator and prey population at random on a 5X5 grid using a two digit random numbers table (available online including numbers from 11-55). They will then determine the fate of the populations based on food availability and adaptation. Survivors may have offspring with differential acuity who will be redistributed during the next round. Careful records of the round survivors must be kept for analysis and discussion.
