Description
Although many trees are bare and flowers are not growing outside in January, there is a special beauty to be seen in the Winter:
- empty birds’ nests in the leaf-less branch sculptures of trees,
- the scampering & flittering of non-hibernating animals,
- the deep greenness of conifers,
- icicles hanging everywhere like frozen ornaments,
- and white, white skies filled with the promise of snow.

Turn on your global weather channel and go several hundred miles North/South of the Equator for inspiration while exploring this unit.
Wherever you live, it is always important to Feed The Birds. Use the Feed the Birds Project Needs to help you create several Eateries your feathered friends will enjoy again and again. Make sure to do some research on what foods your particular birds need to thrive.
Record the behaviors of Winter’s animals in your Nature ~Watchers’ Winter Journal. Make notes of the plant life and include drawings with your observations. Use the weather’s temperature to notice changes in your outside environment. Take pictures as reminders of what you have seen.
