Objective: Students will form hypotheses about the contents of 12 mystery boxes. Students will develop methods of collecting data other than visual observation, and relate the experiment to the Nature of Science.
Nature of Science: Mystery Box Experiment
In this activity, the students conduct an experiment about the contents of 12 mystery boxes. Working in pairs, the students will use indirect observation methods to create a hypothesis about the contents of each box.
The students will complete a data collection table, compare boxes to boxes, answer 11 higher-order thinking questions, compare results with other groups, and relate this activity to the Nature of Science.
**This activity is student-centered and engaging. This activity promotes higher order thinking and collaboration. **
