Nature of wave review and challenge presentation revisits the basics concepts of waves. Student’s reviews: what is a wave, parts of a wave, characteristics of a wave, types of waves, wave’s interaction, interference, Doppler Effect and sonic boom. Students are engaged in rigorous review and then two challenges. The challenges are designed to allow competition between teams. They are also timed to keep students on track.
The review and two challenges (15 minutes challenge and 6 minutes contest) address the following standards:
S8P4. Students will explore the wave nature of sound and electromagnetic radiation.
a. Identify the characteristics of electromagnetic and mechanical waves.
b. Describe how the behavior of light waves is manipulated causing reflection, refraction diffraction, and absorption.
d. Describe how the behavior of waves is affected by medium (such as air, water, solids).
e. Relate the properties of sound to everyday experiences.
f. Diagram the parts of the wave and explain how the parts are affected by changes in amplitude and pitch.
