Nature of wave flashcards helps students to review key terms, compare and contrast sound and electromagnetic waves and understand their properties, interactions and applications.
The packet is made up of 30 flashcards that can be utilized for peer or group quizzing (game). Students can work in groups of four to make the game more interactive and effective. Each group can select a leader who keeps up with the flashcards and scores. Students will take turn to define the words and they can also sort the cards into groups such as terms related to sound, and electromagnetic waves. Students can also sort the flashcards by wave properties and interactions.
The activity is aligned with the standard: S8P4.a, b, c, d and f.
S8P4. Students will explore the wave nature of sound and electromagnetic radiation.
a. Identify the characteristics of electromagnetic and mechanical waves.
b. Describe how the behavior of light waves is manipulated causing reflection, refraction diffraction, and absorption.
c. Explain how the human eye sees objects and colors in terms of wavelengths.
d. Describe how the behavior of waves is affected by medium (such as air, water, solids).
e. Relate the properties of sound to everyday experiences.
f. Diagram the parts of the wave and explain how the parts are affected by changes in amplitude and pitch
