Science began with a curiosity of how nature works. Scientists set out on expeditions bringing back thousand of specimens they have collected to explore, examine, and analyse.
This curiosity of scientists is reflected in this lesson Nature’s Collectibles.
Learning about the states of matter began by exploring solids, and in this lesson students do just that - they learn to explore and describe solids found naturally in the environment.
Just like those early scientists trying to make sense of the world we live in, the students will go out on an exciting expedition to the school yard, or the near-by woodlands, Here, they will gather into sophisticated containers, provided by their beloved teacher, exciting samples from nature.
They will then bring these samples back into their classroom and investigate them to determine the biology, physics, and chemistry of nature’s solids.
There are seven tests students will be performing on the 'samples' they have collected themselves.
**General observations of color, texture, and durability
**Physics tests (four)
---> detailed instructions to the teacher, including time taken for each test
---> recording sheets for each test
---> lab report with writing prompts
---> instruction cards for each station
