This art activity focuses on the shape of numbers and the repetitive patterns used to decorate them. Tied to math.
Students will learn (or be reminded) about NeoPopRealism ink pen pattern drawing and work of artist Nadia Russ, who created this style in 1989. Students will define the terms “NeoPopRealism" and "NeoWhimsies" and will differentiate NeoPopRealism/ NeoWhimsies drawing concept with its contrasting and flatness from the Realism approach. Students will learn (or will be reminded) that NeoWhimsies are the simplified NeoPopRealism ink pen pattern drawings, they will learn about numbers, and will experiment with drawing the numbers, decorated with the repetitive patterns. Students will create a number, inspired by the drawings by Nadia Russ and NeoPopRealism, using ink pen without preparation and without eraser (important).
