Students read an account of when Rome burned in 64 AD while Nero was emperor and answer 10 questions, and respond to a statement with 6 sub-questions. There is also a creative task where students create a museum exhibit. This would be great for a sub and the answers included where appropriate!
Sample questions include:
--Why were the Christians an easy group to scapegoat at the time?
--How did the city's design instigate the fire's growth and progress?
--Explain why people didn't fight the fire.
--Summarize Nero's actions upon returning to the city. How did his actions contrast with the rumor of his role during the fire?
--Why might these rumors have started in the first place?
--At this point in time, do you think the truth is relevant, why or why not?
