Have you considered using learning stations or even a nervous system escape room with your students? This is a nervous system activity that is ideal for reviewing before an exam. Includes sorting cards on peripheral vs. central nervous system, steps of an action potential, overview of a neuron, and synapses.

In this scenario, students are put into groups and given the following information.

Your team has just arrived at the MRI lab where you do research, but you realize that the code for entry has changed. In order to get in and use the MRI, you must solve the encrypted message. You only have an hour to use the lab so work efficiently to get the job done.Your team has just arrived at the MRI lab where you do research, but you realize that the code for entry has changed. This is a 4 part escape room that can be adapted for your students into anything from seat work to a full blown escape room experience. Depending on your time and your classes.

4 tasks:

  1. Students are asked to sort clues into one of two categories: peripheral or central nervous system.
  2. Students are given a list of social media posts and asked to put them in the correct order. The posts are the steps of an action potential
  3. Students are provided an informational text on neurons and synapses and asked to answer questions using the provided text. Two texts are provided, but you may use one or both.
  4. Students use the answers in the previous tasks to break the code and solve the encrypted message.
