Product Description
Teach your life science students about the nervous system using this human body unit. Included are a webquest, vocabulary terms, nonfiction article, doodle sketch notes, digital and printable task cards, flip book, and a STEM inquiry activity. You will receive:

• Internet webquest to give students background information
• informative text detailing the parts and function

• two pages of doodle sketch notes
→ detailing parts of the nervous system

• Printable and Google Classroom ready task cards to review both systems

• STEM inquiry activity; students use materials to make a protective covering that will help the brain withstand an injury when dropped.

This resource was designed and used with my grade 6 small group and inclusion science students.

An answer key is included.

Why Doodle Notes? Research shows that when we sketch, doodle, or color and listen to someone, both sides of our brain are engaged. Most school subjects are only engaging our left side of the brain so by introducing a task that also stimulates the right side of the brain, students will be able to focus enough on their task while also taking in the content of what they are doing. When both sides of the brain are working, new connections are being made. These connections are then creating a stronger, more cohesive learning environment. Sketch or doodle notes also create a beautiful visual. This helps in two ways. First, students are immediately drawn to want to work on the task simply because of how pleasing it looks to the eye. Second, students are able to make visual connections. These visual connections provide them with another way to analyze and remember information as well as one of the most beautiful study guides they have ever had.
