This activity is for your students to work with Net Forces and balanced or unbalanced forces. I use this as an engage activity before I teach the students to calculate Net force, but you can use it as a check for understanding, practice, or quiz.
Have the students choose two cards and place them on the squares. The students are to then answer the questions according to the two forces they chose. Sometimes the forces will balance, other times the forces will not.
Texas TEKS for 8th grade Science:
(8.6) Force, motion, and energy. The student knows that there is a relationship between force, motion, and energy. The student is expected to:
(A) demonstrate and calculate how unbalanced forces change the speed or direction of an object's motion
Texas TEKS for 6th grade Science:
6.(8) Force, motion, and energy. The student knows force and motion are related to potential and kinetic energy. The student is expected to:
(B) identify and describe the changes in position, direction, and speed of an object when acted upon by unbalanced forces;
