In this PYP PE designed Pickleball Unit Plan, the central idea is focused on playing net games that help practice striking skills, hand-eye coordination, court rules, strategy development and partner communication. Students participate in a variety of fun warm-up games, skills specific drills, singles court play for development and doubles tournament Pickleball games. This 6 week 12 lesson unit, provides practice of targeted striking skills with a paddle, strategic stroke development, on court strategies, skill-related practice including agility and coordination, partner work and communication within a fun and non-traditional net game. Students build knowledge, understanding and application of skills related to net games that are transferable to the concepts and skills practice of other similar net sports. Within the inquiry questions and assessments including a partner skills evaluation and video skills analysis, students are able to reflect, question, analyze and evaluate their deeper thinking skills in a fun yet engaging way. A great and unique unit to welcome your students to net games and spark their interest to continue practice through net sports!
