Engage your students in this quick NETFLIX episode (about 20 minutes) on the concepts of aging! Before diving into the episode, answer a couple "pre-watch" questions as a class to get the students thinking about aging. Then, start the episode that will guide them through the "during-watch" questions, pausing to make sure they're able to keep up! This episode will discuss the billion dollar anti-aging industry, how our cells and chromosomes cause aging, and genetic mutations that have doubled the lifespans of organisms. Finally, finish the episode with a quick post-watch question to spark discussion/debate. This episode could be used in any biology or health class. It would be perfect during a cellular division or genetics unit.

The worksheet is 25 questions total, 3 of which are pre-watch questions and one is a post-watch question. You may need to pause the episode to ensure students don't miss anything. Or, you could use this as substitute work. A key is provided!

Make and defend a claim based on evidence that inheritable genetic variations may result from (1) new genetic combinations through meiosis, (2) viable errors occurring during replication, and/or (3) mutations caused by environmental factors. Emphasis is on using data to support arguments for the way variation occurs. Assessment does not include the phases of meiosis or the biochemical mechanism of specific steps in the process.
Use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division (mitosis) and differentiation in producing and maintaining complex organisms. Assessment does not include specific gene control mechanisms or rote memorization of the steps of mitosis.
