This 18 minute episode of Explained looks at the pay gap between men at women. It discusses the motherhood penalty, gender norms, and looks at the changing pay wages over the year. It also discusses how the pay gap is impacted by women's role of mother. This talk takes a look at two country, Rwanda and Iceland, and how events in their country have led to shrinking the pay gap.
The lesson would be great in a Women's Study, Sociology's Gender Unit, or inequality in society lesson. My worksheet contains 18 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience. I would set aside 30 minutes for this activity. The talk is 18 minutes, but you want to also allow yourself time for students to answer the last question and to have time to discuss the episode.
