Sometimes young children in our classrooms have to deal with the death of a pet. Penelope Torribio wrote "Never Get Too Close to a Fish," to help students and their peers identify and talk about their feelings of loosing a pet they love. This is a book about a boy who took home his classroom fish. He became friends with the fish. Sadly it died. Penelope has used this in real live situtations in her own classroom. This simple story was not only a successful prompt for talking about feelings, it also allowed the students to express sympathy for the child's loss.
