This activity was developed to be used with the text of Edward Gorey's Willowdale Handcar or The Return of the Black Doll to teach students how to approach literature from both Deconstructionist and Constructionist lenses. It uses ideas from the New Oxford Guide to the English HL Literature courses, such as Different Types of Readers, How to Read Prose Fiction, and Talking about the Context in order to develop a student presentation that interprets a graphic text through different literary and knowledge based theories. This activity is best completed over two days, as an exploratory lecture first, and then a close-read into the work with the aide of TOK and Literature based lenses. This comes with the presentation hand-out, and the presentation of the power point itself in a PDF form.

Gorey released several versions of this texts, including some that told the "story" in a different order or included different panels. This is a fun connection to make when incorporating TOK!
