Students will explore the New Deal programs of the Great Depression. Students will share the research that they do in a speed-dating style.
Students must be in tables of ODD numbers for this assignment to work.
Students should sit in pods of odd numbers. Assign each student at the table a different New Deal Program.
Allow students 45 minutes to research the New Deal Program and to create a flyer about the New Deal Program.
Below are the four parts of the assignment:
Part 1: Create a Program Profile:
•After being assigned a New Deal Program, research the program and complete the graphic organizer below.
•Be sure to make the information easy to understand so they you can share it with your peers.
Part 2: Create a Flyer for the New Deal program
•The flyer may be completed on the computer OR by hand.
•Include the name of the program, a slogan, and a picture illustrating the provisions of the program.
•Your goal is to bring awareness to a New Deal program.
Part 3: Speed Date
•You will have four minutes to “date” the person sitting across from you. When you “date” each classmate, write down the information on their New Deal program in your New Deal program graphic organizer.
•When the buzzer sounds, stand up and move to the seat to your right to start your next “date”
•You will have one four-minute segment in which you will not be on a “date.” During this time, fill your New Deal program into the graphic organizer.
Step 4: Written Response
•Write a one paragraph essay in which you argue which New Deal program was most important and why you believe that.
