For thousands of years, civilizations have practiced New Year's traditions and even set goals or resolutions to start off a New Year. These resolutions are often forgotten about and therefore the goals are not met.
This STEM challenge guides students through the design process of developing 3 classroom academic or behavioral goals and inventing a machine using a marble to give each goal or resolution an equal chance of being chosen.
Use students' finished products to select a goal each week to work on as a class and encourage students to work hard to meet these goals. This will not only help create a better classroom environment, but will also help to instill perseverance in students as they learn to set goals and see the reward in reaching them as a team.
